A kitchen witch is an unusual breed of witch, one who eschews traditional spellcasting components to instead channel their magical energy into the nourishing power of food and drink. To them, the hearth and kitchen are a sacred space, and their stove (or cauldron, as the case may be) is the altar upon which they work their magic. Their grimoires are full of recipes, many of which were handed down through the generations, and indeed some kitchen witches keep these “spells” not in a book but written on small cards and other slips of paper tucked safely away in a little wooden box. Whether it is baking bread, simmering soups, or brewing beer, a kitchen witch has a meal on their mind that will nourish body and soul.
When you choose this archetype at 2nd level, you gain proficiency in either cook’s utensils or brewer’s supplies. You may also use what some would call unusual implements as your spellcasting focus. Choose one implement from the toolkit chosen, such as a kitchen knife, wooden spoon, rolling pin, or other similar object. This item counts as a spellcasting focus for you. If your focus is lost or destroyed, it may be replaced as a ritual that takes 10 minutes and 5 gp of natural materials you would use in your practice (such as dried cooking herbs and wood from a cooking fire).
Also at 2nd level, you may magically imbue the food and drink you craft with your magic, granting you or your allies the benefits of your magical intention and bolstering them physically or mentally. If you spend an hour preparing a meal/drink using your cook’s utensils or brewer’s supplies, choose one of the following effects (this action may be performed as part of a short or long rest). Creatures who consume this dish benefit from the chosen effect for the next 8 hours:
Athleticism. This rich meal bolsters the body, giving you energy for the coming day. You gain an expertise die to both Athletics and Acrobatics checks for the duration.
Endurance. This light meal fills you with energy to burn without weighing you down. Whenever you would make a Constitution saving throw to resist the fatigue from a forced march, add an expertise die to the roll.
Memory. This meal seeks to nourish the mind as well as the body, letting you recall more information from your studies. Choose a lore skill (Culture, Engineering, History, Nature, or Religion). You gain proficiency in that skill (or a specialty if you are already proficient) and an expertise die for skill checks using that skill.
You may impart these benefits to a number of creatures (including yourself) equal to your proficiency bonus per short rest, though you need enough Supply to account for each individual. A creature may only benefit from one of these effects at a time.
At 6th level, you have gained the skill to fuse your spells into food, granting its effects to whomever consumes it. You may cast a witch spell that would target a creature into a food item or a beverage, and any creature who 3 consumes that item experiences the effects of the spell as if it had been cast on them (consuming the food requires an action). If a spell would require concentration, the creature who consumed the item rolls any checks to maintain concentration, but they use your spellcasting save DC and spellcasting ability modifier to calculate spell attacks and damage rolls. You may only create one of these foodstuffs at a time, and if you create another item in this fashion the effects of the first spell immediately end.
Additionally, if you expend a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you may create a blackbird pie, as in the wondrous item. Once you conjure forth a blackbird pie in this fashion, you may not do so again until you complete a long rest.
At 10th level, you have gained greater mastery over your kitchen magic. You gain the following enhancements to choose from when you use your Kitchen Intention ability:
Fortification. This hearty meal enriches your muscles, providing you with greater physical prowess. For the duration, you have advantage on Strength ability checks and saving throws and you count yourself as one Size larger in terms of calculating your carrying capacity.
Quickness. Though this meal is more like a collection of delicious morsels, it gives you the energy to stay light on your feet, even in the heat of battle. You gain an expertise die to your initiative and your base walking speed increases by 10 feet.
Resilience. This meal bolsters your resolve, granting you heightened resistance to magical effects. You have advantage on saving throws against spells.
At 14th level, you have truly mastered the art of preparing even the most elaborate meals, bringing your allies together and making them stronger. You always have the spell heroes’ feast prepared, and you may cast it without material components or expending a spell slot once per long rest.
