Miners bore into the bones of the earth, extracting wealth from below for the world above. In subterranean civilizations—like those of certain dwarves, gnomes, and elves—miners also have the key role of breaking ground on new places to live. T he work is backbreaking to all but the most hardy laborers, and the dusty conditions can undo even the most rugged miner. Despite the danger, the work is basically honest and the rewards are profound. Gemstones, precious metals, fossil fuels, and unknown magics are said to reside in the dark depths. A deeper darkness also lives there, untouched by sun or air since before the world began...
How come you to the mining business? Are you a mining guild member or a prospector? Perhaps a conscript or a prisoner? Is your mine owned by your family, a nearby town, a mining company—or is the ownership unclear? When you dig, is it a path to freedom—or to an early grave? Most importantly, how did you escape the trenches of the mine to become an adventurer?
